Class Description
This course is designed for twenty-eight (28) hours of classroom instruction, field instruction, student exam, and the proficiency demonstration. Attachments are included with directions for the practical exercises, range drills, student exam, and an approximated schedule.

Curriculum Description
The material contained within this document was created by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), as the instructional guideline for Texas License To Carry a Handgun (LTC) Instructors to use in accordance with House Bill 1069.
Outlined objectives are classroom training in:
- Self-Defense
- De-escalation techniques
- Tactical thinking relating to cover for and concealment of the license holder
- Methods to conceal a handgun and methods to ensure the secure carrying of a concealed handgun
- The use of restraint holsters and methods to ensure the secure carrying of an openly carried handgun
- Consequences of improper use of a handgun
It will also provide field instruction in the use of handguns, including:
- Instinctive or reactive shooting
- Tactical shooting
- Shooting while moving
- Shooting in low light conditions
Course Schedule
Day 1
- 8:00am - 9:00am
- (Classroom - 1hr) Sign in / orientation / course schedule and layout / introductions
- 9:00am - 11:00am
- (Field instruction - 2hrs) Inspection of student’s equipment / ammo / range safety rules/ handgun proficiency demonstration (min score 90%) / range clean up
- 11:00pm - 12:00pm
- Lunch Break
- 12:00pm - 1:00pm
- (Classroom - 1hr) Shooting in low light conditions
- 1:00pm - 5:00pm
- (Classroom-4hrs). Self-defense & Laws related to LTC holders as First Responders
Day 2

- (Classroom - 1hr) Methods to conceal a handgun and methods to ensure the secure carrying of a concealed handgun / The use of restraint holsters and methods to ensure the secure carrying of an openly carried handgun
- 9:00am - 9:30am
- (Classroom - 0.5 hour) The use of handguns
- 9:30am - 12:00pm
- (Field instruction - 2.5hrs) The use of handguns - Instinctive or reactive shooting

Please bring your own firearm and ammo. If you need to rent a firearm, I have a 9mm that can be rented. This course will change how you feel about firearms. It will give you the tools and resources to be confident in handling a firearm.

Students are required to cancel at least 48 hours in advance of a class date in order to receive a full refund. Classes cancelled less than 48 hours before the class will not be refunded.
